My Article

So, great news - my article 'The Adherents of Edmund of Woodstock, Earl of Kent, in March 1330' has now been published in the English Historical Review, volume 126, pp. 779-805.  :-)  Here's a link to the abstract.  Needless to say, I'm very, very proud and excited to see my name in such a prestigious journal, and I really hope the article goes a long way to demolishing the often-repeated notion that the earl of Kent was stupid and that's why he believed Edward II was still alive in 1330.  He wasn't stupid, you know.  Really not.  Neither were the many dozens of men who supported him in the plot to free Edward and, as far as I can tell, shared his belief in the survival of the former king.  I do hope you'll read the article and enjoy it.  :-)

I can only add my own congratulations on your very impressive--and highly convincing--research.

It's always wonderful to see historians who really try to work things through, instead of just repeating the same old same old.

I tried to find out more about Norwegain/English connections, but there are a lot more Norwegian/Scottish connections. The marriage between Ed II and Maragaret of Norway is the only one for the time I could find, but it's too late for Alv Erlingsson to have participated (1290); he was already out of favour then. The leader of that embassy was Baron Audun Hugleikson.

The Ingeborg Eiriksdottir who marrtied one of the brothers of King Birger of Sweden, came from Eirik's second marraige to Isobel Bruce - no wonder she and her SiL managed to kick Birger out of Sweden. A true Bruce. :)
