Happy 700th Birthday!

Today is an important anniversary: exactly 700 years since the birth of King Edward III on 13 November 1312!  Happy Birthday, Sire!  Here's a post I wrote about the great event two years ago.

Also, a post about Edward II's relationship with his children, including Edward III; and, because I can never say it often enough and because misinformed fools on the internet insist on claiming otherwise, here and here are posts detailing why we can be sure that Edward II was Edward III's real father.

  1. Happy Birthday to His Majesty! It's indeed quite an anniversary! Oh dear, when will I find time to read Ian Mortimer's Perfect King??? The beginning is so promising... but I have never ventured out the very chamber in which Roger Mortimer was taken by surprise and caught:-) Hope I will manage to change it in the nearest future:-)

I will read the texts via links later in the afternoon. Have to go now...

  2. Via the link I've read about Edward's birth and its aftermath (seven godfathers, WOW!), and via Edward's birthday I've found Five Funny Facts About Edward II. IMHO, we can safely call His Highness the forerunner of the naturist movement:-) Edward and Isabella naked, after he had saved her life, naked minstrels... anyone else naked?:-)
I was delighted to learn that they overslept on such an important occasion:-) It does shed a new light on their marriage (new for me of course:-)).

  3. Oh, I love those stories about Edward and Isabella oversleeping, and the naked dancers on the anniversary of Piers' death. Great stuff. :-)
